Each fall, the Livonia Public Library and the Livonia Library Commission invite our community to come together through the power of a shared story. One City, One Book targets adult readers; however, we encourage residents of all ages to explore the same book and its themes through a variety of special events.
One City, One Book 2026
Our 2026 selection is The Small and the Mighty by Sharon McMahon, an inspiring collection of true stories of ordinary Americans, such as schoolteachers and telephone operators, who played significant roles in shaping historical events and contributing to their communities.

Throughout September and October, join us for programs celebrating the courage, hope, and resourcefulness of ordinary people who made an extraordinary difference. Copies of the book are available in print, e-book and e-audiobook formats. Print copies may be checked out at both library locations. About One City, One Book
The Livonia Public Library launched One City, One Book to inspire community-wide conversations through a shared reading experience. Each year, a committee selects a book that encourages discussion and offers opportunities to explore its themes through library programming. From lectures and discussions to family activities, One City, One Book brings readers together while celebrating lifelong learning and community connections.
