A researcher may make requests for obituary information in person, by telephone, fax or email. For people who resided or died in Livonia, we will research the Detroit News from 1980-2001, or the Livonia Observer from 1962 to the present. For requests regarding residents who passed away in Detroit, we suggest using the Detroit Public Library or the State Library of Michigan. We charge a research fee of $10 per name submitted with a date of death. This fee includes copying the obituary and is payable in advance. Payment is required even if no record is found. Please send your request along with a check or money order payable to the Livonia Public Library to: Obituary Requests

Interlibrary Loans and Holds
If an item is checked out or not owned by the library you are visiting, you may place a "hold" on the item. You will be placed on the waiting list for checked out items or it will be shipped from another owning library depending on availability and individual library policies for interlibrary loan. When you are notified that the requested item is available for pick up, you will find it on the "hold shelf" under your last name. The requested item will remain on the hold shelf for 5 days (beginning the day after you are notified). If the item is not picked up in that time period, it will be returned to the owning library. Check it out at the circulation desk as usual.
If an item is not available within Livonia or the Library Network catalog, we will request a copy from libraries around the state of Michigan through the MeLCat network of libraries.
